A Solarized theme for Aptana in Eclipse

There seems to be a bit of a buzz around Ethan Schoonover’s Solaraized colour palette at the moment. It’s an impressive bit of work. I had a look around and couldn’t find a version for Apatana, which I use in Eclipse, so I quickly put one together.

I’ve adapted the default Aptana colour scheme to use Ethan’s palette, rather than try to match the samples on his site and I may well tweak it as I go on. If you want to try it out then you can download it here.

I used a similar colour scheme for coding for years, but unless you code in a darkened room, I think a light background is easier on the eye. What’s the usability research on this?

I’ve not seen any proper research, but I switched to a dark background a while back and find I focus better. I imagine it’s a pretty personal choice.

The default solarized.zip now comes with the thTheme(textmate) and you can import those into eclipse.

Thanks – I’ll check it out.

Yes the one from solarized.zip works perfectly. Thanks David Owens!
